Foster Some Love

Kitten season is here and we need your help. Join our army of foster care families and save 1, 2, or even more lives. Orphaned kittens or mothers with nursing kittens will need the most help. Kittens need a safe, loving environment in which to grow. Foster families provide the love & care these kittens need until they are old enough to return to the Humane Society for adoption.

Foster families save lives!

Caring Kids

With so many great kids collecting and donating to the Humane Society, we've added a new website feature called "Caring Kids." First up: Lilly Buckley, Mary Lutton, Jillian McDougal, and the Sixth-Grade Class at Mount Vernon Middle School. Thanks kids!

The Lonely Hearts Club

Forgotten Cats Deserve a Second Chance

Week after week they watch visitors come and go, hoping this time someone will notice them. Maybe they greet you as you walk in the front door, or perhaps they watch from behind the door or from a high perch in the next room.

They are the discarded pets and the homeless strays; the forgotten cats in the

"Lonely Hearts Club."

Lonely Heart Cat of the Month

Meet Mr. June -- Barnabus!

Barnabus is a very dashing 1-year-old black and white male. Barnabus is dressed up in his best tuxedo and he looks like he is ready to conduct a symphony. Barnabus was a stray in his previous life, but it is easy to see he is a gentleman with very refined manners for such a young guy. Barnabus would do well with the entire orchestra, or performing a solo as your only companion. Just give him the cue!

Our Lonely Hearts Club is a Winner for the Second Year in a Row!

In July 2008, Maddie's Fund held a second competition for Petfinder.com members to find effective marketing strategies for adopting hard to place dogs and cats. Winners were recently announced and The Knox County Humane Society was awarded $2000 for our Lonely Hearts Club! The Lonely Hearts Club features cats that have been with us for at least 6 months.

Special thanks to Carol Bene for caring about these special cats, for keeping up with the Lonely Hearts Club, and for submitting this winning entry! Way to go Carol!

Lonely Hearts Club Open House a Heartwarming Success

Once again, Valentine’s Day was a red letter day for the Humane Society Lonely Hearts cats, and the rest of the month was pretty special, too!

The second annual Lonely Hearts Open House, which took place at the cat shelter on February 14, was a heartwarming success. During the Open House, three Lonely Hearts cats went to their new homes: LaToya, Paco, and Tennessee. Tennessee's new family drove all the way from West Virginia just to adopt him and ended up adopting a kitten as well.
