Mount Vernon Middle School

Sixth-Grade students from Mount Vernon Middle School raised $1261 and brought in 166 items for the cats and dogs at the Humane Society. For the last 6 years, Trudy Debolt's class has collected supplies and money for the Humane Society. This year they really outdid themselves! Thanks so much!!

On April 29, 2009 the top 5 collectors visited the Humane Society and helped deliver all the goodies. The students, Toby Baumann, Micah Bolander, D'art Casto, Loren Luebke, and Allura Wright, had a great time playing and cuddling with all the cats at the shelter.

In December 2008, 10-year-old Lilly Buckley made cookies and had a bake sale to collect money for the Humane Society. Lilly collected $40! Lilly even made a scratch toy for the cats. Thanks so much Lilly!!

Mary Lutton with Selleck

Mary Lutton

When Mary Lutton celebrated her 8th birthday, she didn’t want presents. Instead, she wanted to help local animals by requesting gifts for the Humane Society. Her second grade classmates were very supportive of the idea and made some great donations.

Mary watches animal cop shows on Animal Planet with her parents and becomes very upset about the mistreatment of animals. On Saturday, September 27, 2008, Mary and her mom delivered bags of cat and kitten food, dog food, treats, toys, and monetary donations for the animals at the Humane Society.

Mary, the daughter of Kristy and Mike Lutton, has always loved animals and currently lives with two Bichon dogs named Suzy and Annabelle.

Thanks Mary!!

Jillian McDougal

Second-grader Jillian McDougal has always been a great supporter of the Humane Society. Jillian has participated in our Walk for the Animals and Kitten Shower, and instead of gifts for her birthday, she asked for donations to the Humane Society.

This year (2009) Jillian started a fundraiser in her class that spread through all of Centerburg Elementary. The fundraiser raised more than $950 and brought in loads of items for the cats and dogs.

Jillian told the Mount Vernon News, “I was born with animals. My parents always taught me how to be good to animals and how to take care of them. It’s so awesome to have animals in your life. Because animals are always excited to see you. Whether you’re happy or sad, they always make you feel better. To have a friend who’s an animal, you’ll always have a friend for life.”

We couldn't have said it better! Thanks Jillian! And thanks to all of the students at Centerburg Elementary!
